Authors of a scientific abstract that has been banned for discussion at meetings of the Geological Society of America are holding two news conferences next week to release their banned research on dinosaur carbon-dating, and a new book, Giants Against Evolution.

As they can’t present at the Geological Society of America 46th annual North-Central Section meeting, they plan to do it on the street outside the Dayton Convention Center.

Banned Abstract

The banned abstract on carbon dating of dinosaur bones, written by an international team of ten distinguished scientists and researchers is to be released by Joe Taylor and Hugh Miller.

Joe Taylor, the author of a new book, Giants Against Evolution will be at the Akron Dinosaur and Science Museum, to give a presentation for the public at 7 p.m. on April 23, “Blind Dating a Dinosaur.”

Evidence of Soft Dinosaur Tissue?

Taylor is director of the Mt. Blanco Fossil Museum in Crosbyton, Texas, and Hugh Miller is the coordinator of the Paleochronology (Paleo) Group of Columbus, Ohio.

Taylor and Miller say most participants at the Geological Society of America’s North-Central Section meeting in Dayton next week will be unaware that important scientific research has been banned from discussion at the conference.

As they did last year, conference organizers rejected inclusion of an abstract on direct carbon dating of dinosaur bones from international scientific teams on three continents. The papers’ authors, are affiliated with the Paleochronology (“Paleo”) Group, and several of them plan to be at the Geological Society’s Dayton meeting to talk to participants.

The Paleo Group posted their abstract and supporting documents at http://bit.ly/HWN3Qz, click on “view submission”

“Banning of well-researched data by scientists and professional researchers is unacceptable for any honest scientist or scientific organization.”
- Joe Taylor

The banned abstract, “14C in Dinosaur Bones from Texas to Alaska, China and Europe, Suggest a Much More Recent Extinction,” was written by an international team of ten distinguished scientists and researchers from around the world, several of whom have been working on this research for almost 30 years.

“Mounting evidence confirm that large biomolecules in some dinosaurs and other fossils still exist,” explains the abstract. “Presented here are results of investigations showing that collagen and other dinosaur bone fractions also contain significant amounts of 14C which explains why some collagen has survived!”

Dinosaur bones from central Texas, Montana, Colorado, and Alaska were studied at prestigious labs internationally, as well as a Psittacosaurus and Rhino from the Gobi desert of China and a Mosasaur from a Belgium museum.

A major purpose of the presentation of this evidence was to inspire a joint effort by GSA members to cross check the data by C-14 dating other dinosaur bones and fossils. The group says this response is mandated by GSA standards and by the scientific method when reproducible data of this kind is reported for ancient fossils after contaminant removal.

“Exclusion of important data is simply not the way legitimate scientific research should be conducted,” said Joe Taylor, director of the Mt. Blanco Fossil Museum in Crosbyton, Texas. He and Hugh Miller of the Paleo Group hope to make an impact on some of the attendees at the Dayton meeting. In December, they attended the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco, which also did not allow discussion at the meeting of their groundbreaking research.

A Travesty of Science

“Both the American Geophysical Union and the National Academy of Scientists claim that open communication is their policy. Sharing of important scientific discoveries and transparency in research and throughout the educational system must be reinstated and maintained. Failure to do so makes a travesty of science and is a great disservice to the public that relies on scientists to tell it the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”

According to the Paleo Group, direct 14C (carbon dating) of bone collagen and/or other bone fractions of eight dinosaurs from Texas to Alaska has yielded ages ranging from 22,990 ±130 years to 39,230 ± 140 years for 22 samples.

The team will continue to urge fellow scientists from across the globe to use C-14 testing of bone collagen and other fragments from other dinosaurs and marine reptiles to see if this discovery continues to be a consistent worldwide phenomenon.

Most significantly, this data shows that dinosaurs appear to be 2000 times younger than the standard figure of 65 million that is taught to students and used in the popular media. “If this is confirmed by other researchers then the cataclysm that may have taken out most dinosaurs by the asteroid impact at Chicxulub Mexico also could have caused the Daccan Flood Basalt deposits in India as suggested in this extensive reference (Schulte, P. et al. 2010, Science) but only 1000’s of years ago,” Hugh Miller said.

These data also explain why expert scientists are correct in asserting that residual collagen and soft tissue found in dinosaurs by lab experiments should only last 1000’s of years not 65 million or more. Intimidation by elitist groups has apparently cowered some researchers into ignoring the obvious and most simplistic experiments – 14C dating of the collagen and soft tissue to see if such unusual survival could be due to their actually being 2000 times younger than the assumed 65 Ma.

Some dinosaur bones contain tissues that are elastic, have collagen, and traces of hemoglobin in them.

In addition to C-14 ages for U.S. dinosaurs, a Psittacosaurus tail bone and Rhino skull fragments from the Gobi desert of China yielded ages of 22,020 ± 50 and 22,830 ± 90 14C years respectively in 2011. Even bone fragments from a marine reptile, a Mosasaur from a Belgium museum yielded an age of 24,600 14C years (Lindgren et al. 2011. PLoS ONE).

“Thus, similar 14C ages in the 1000’s of years on three continents suggest a more recent world-wide cataclysm and can not be ignored. Shouldn’t the new data be cross checked to determine if the current computer modeling of potential hazards needs considerable tweaking to help forestall another possible cataclysm on Earth,” Miller asked.

Ohio company, Procter & Gamble hosted a hair donation event in support of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program, and in partnership with The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s March 2012 production of “Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale.” More than 120 P&G employees, their family and friends and local community members gathered at the P&G Corporate Headquarters to each donate their hair to benefit the program.

Procter & Gamble Pantene Beautiful Lengths Hair Donation Event (Photo: Business Wire)

Pantene Celebrity Hair Stylist Tippi Shorter was joined by 30 local hair stylists and characters from the Rapunzel production to volunteer their time to help cut the ponytails that were donated to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. In addition to the hair cutting, representatives from the American Cancer Society spoke at yesterday’s event to share their appreciation for the program and those who donate their hair. Previous ponytail donor, Siena Potorski, also spoke at the event. Siena, who has a brittle bone disorder expressed her desire to give back by donating her hair to help others with cancer, just as others have supported her as she struggles with her disease. The master of ceremonies for the event was Kevin Crociata, Marketing Director of North American Hair Care at Procter & Gamble.

“We are continually impressed by the dedication people nationwide have shown to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program year after year. Pantene believed that its partnership with The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati would be the perfect opportunity to host its second hair cutting event, allowing the P&G Family and the Cincinnati community to cut and donate their hair to the program,” says Crociata. “The people who donated their hair yesterday are such an inspiration, and their selfless donations are truly going to make a difference to cancer patients. We could not thank these amazing men, women and children enough.”

Created in 2006, Pantene Beautiful Lengths inspires people to grow, cut and donate their healthy hair to create free, real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments. To date, Pantene Beautiful Lengths has received more than 311,000 hair donations from generous men, women, and children. The American Cancer Society distributes the wigs through their nationwide network of wig banks at no cost. Since the start of the program, more than 18,000 real-hair wigs have been provided to female cancer patients.

This event kicked-off the countdown to the first ever “National Donate Your Hair Day” on April 27, benefiting the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. Pantene and Seventeen Magazine have partnered to create this annual day of giving where people nationwide are encouraged to cut and donate their hair.

The requirements to donate hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths are:

Each hair donation must be at least 8 inches long.

Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes. It cannot be bleached, permanently colored or chemically treated.

Gray hair is difficult to use in the wig-making process, so hair may not be more than 5% gray at the time of donation.

The Council of Smaller Enterprises received a $50,000 grant to provide energy efficiency assistance to small businesses, from the State government, their third energy grant in two years.

The grant runs until September 2012. The council must coordinate with qualified energy auditors to provide educational, audit, technical and financial resources to small businesses, with the aim of identifying opportunities for energy savings across the State

50 small businesses will access the resources, on a first-come first-served basis. The resources and educational programming specifically target Ohio non-residential, small businesses that spend less than $150,000 per year on their energy costs.

After the energy audit is completed, the small businesses could be eligible for Advanced Energy Funds or other incentives.

Identification of small business that could participate should begin soon, assisted by Ohio Small Business Development Center network and local chambers of commerce.

“COSE is proud to have been recognized for its impact on small business and selected by the State to once again deliver these timely resources and education to small business in Ohio,” says Steve Millard, executive director of COSE. “Lowering energy costs is important for small businesses and it will be even more important down the road as energy efficiency mandates start to take effect or rates increase.”

COSE is committed to helping small businesses save money by making them more energy efficient and more competitive. COSE was selected for the grant from a competitive pool of applicants based on their ability to provide energy efficiency services, demonstrated success and experience with previous energy grants and the ability to respond to the rising needs of small businesses to develop greater energy efficiency.

The council told is that last year, they coordinated 85 energy audits, 25 energy upgrades, several energy workshops and technical assistance to small businesses in becoming energy efficient.

With the the Dresden plant in full operations, AEP has added more than 4,800 megawatts of natural gas-fired capacity to its generating fleet in the past decade. Natural gas accounts for 24 percent of AEP’s total generating capacity.

“This is another step in the transformation of AEP’s generating fleet as we continue to diversify our fuel mix to improve our environmental footprint and provide economical electricity for our customers.” – Nicholas K. Akins President and CEO AEP

“Natural gas will become an increasing part of AEP’s generating portfolio in the coming decades as a result of the development of shale gas reserves and new environmental regulations, but we continue to believe our company and our nation need a diverse electricity generating portfolio that also includes investment in cleaner coal technologies, nuclear and renewable power,” he added.

AEP purchased the partially constructed Dresden plant in 2007 for approximately $85 million from Dresden Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Dominion. AEP accelerated construction of Dresden in January 2011. Total costs for the plant were approximately $366 million.

The Dresden plant will supply electricity to AEP’s Appalachian Power customers in West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee.

After four months of competing in preliminary rounds, 12 teams of high school students have outplayed and outperformed hundreds of their peers, advancing to the National Finals Competition of the largest and fastest growing high school cyber defense competition – CyberPatriot IV!

CyberPatriot, an education initiative established by the Air Force Association, is a one-of-a-kind cyber defense competition designed to inspire students to consider science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields in their studies. In addition, it teaches today’s youth how to become the next generation of cyber defenders while providing them hands-on learning about cyber security.

In this two-track competition, teams have registered from public, private, parochial and home schools in the Open Division, and Junior ROTC units of all Services and Civil Air Patrol squadrons filled the All Service Division. In all, more than 1,000 teams registered to participate this year, representing all 50 states, U.S. Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Europe and the Pacific, and Canada.

During their third and final round of competition, held last January 13, all service teams set out once again to defend virtualized networks of computers, continuing to build knowledge on improving computer networks and strengthening security features.

Teams were scored according to how quickly and effectively they established and maintained secure networks.

The All Service Division began with more than 600 teams registered. After two spirited rounds of competition, 40 teams advanced to Round 3. Now, the group has been narrowed to 12, and each team will receive all-expenses-paid trips to the CyberPatriot National Finals Competition held in the Washington, DC area from March 22 -24.

Round 3 of the Open Division competition will be held January 27-28. It will select the 12 teams from that division who will advance to the National Finals Competition as well.

CyberPatriot is a member of the U.S. Cyber Challenge (USCC), a national coalition of public-private sector entities collaborating to enhance the workforce with the next generation of cyber security professionals through skill development activities, mentoring, and resources, and the facilitation of scholarship, internship and employment opportunities.

Cheviot Financial Corp., the stock holding company for Cheviot Savings Bank, announced that Cheviot Financial Corp., a Maryland company, which is the proposed successor stock holding company for Cheviot Savings Bank in connection with the mutual-to-stock conversion of Cheviot Mutual Holding Company, expects to sell 4,675,000 shares of common stock.

The shares are to be sold at $8.00 per share, grossing $37.4 million. Orders for a total of 2,489,488 shares of common stock have been accepted in the syndicated community offering, for which Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Incorporated acted as sole book-running manager. New Cheviot received orders for 2,185,512 shares of common stock in the subscription and community offerings, for which Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Incorporated acted as selling agent.

All orders properly executed in the subscription and community offerings will be filled in whole, including the order by New Cheviot’s employee stock ownership plan.

At the same time, shares of Cheviot Federal common stock owned by the public will be exchanged for shares of New Cheviot common stock so that Cheviot Federal’s existing stockholders will own approximately the same percentage of New Cheviot’s common stock as they owned of Cheviot Federal’s common stock immediately prior to the conversion.

This means stockholders of Cheviot Federal will receive 0.8570 shares of New Cheviot’s common stock for each share of Cheviot Federal common stock they own immediately prior to completion of the transaction. Cash in lieu of fractional shares will be paid at a rate of $8.00 per share. As a result of the offering and the exchange of shares, New Cheviot will have approximately 7,596,896 shares outstanding after giving effect to the transaction.

Subject to the receipt of final regulatory approvals, the transaction is scheduled to close on January 18, 2012, at which time Cheviot Mutual Holding Company and Cheviot Federal will cease to exist and New Cheviot will become the fully public stock holding company of Cheviot Savings Bank. The shares of common stock of Cheviot Federal will cease trading under the trading symbol “CHEV” on the Nasdaq Capital Market at the close of business on January 17, 2012. The shares of common stock sold in the offering and issued in the exchange are expected to begin trading on the Nasdaq Capital Market on January 18, 2012 under the trading symbol “CHEVD” for a period of 20 trading days and will thereafter trade under “CHEV.”

Stock certificates for shares purchased in the subscription offering and community offering are expected to be mailed to subscribers on or about January 18, 2012. Stockholders of Cheviot Federal holding shares in street name will automatically receive shares of New Cheviot and cash in lieu of fractional shares within their investment accounts. Stockholders of Cheviot Federal holding shares in certificated form will be mailed a letter of transmittal on or about January 23, 2012 and will receive stock certificates for their shares of New Cheviot common stock and a check representing cash in lieu of fractional shares after submitting their Cheviot Federal stock certificates and a properly completed letter of transmittal to New Cheviot’s transfer agent.

The Council of Smaller Enterprises, one of Ohio’s largest small business support organizations, will hold its 2011 Annual Meeting on Wednesday, January 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the State Theatre at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland.

The organization will transition from outgoing Board Chair Eric Tolbert of Eric Tolbert & Associates to new Board Chair, Sharon Toerek of Licata and Toerek.

At the meeting, the small business members who volunteered their time through the recent Strategic Planning Process, and attended the first Small Business Summit held in February last year, will be recognized.

“COSE will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2012 and we have always been a member driven organization. That was never more evident than in 2011 and we want to thank all those small business members who help us lay the groundwork for the next 40 years of small business support from COSE.”

- Steve Millard, president and executive director

The organization relocated offices from The Higbee Building at Public Square to their new location at 1240 Huron Road on Star Plaza at Playhouse Square, in July last year, to be part of the Playhouse Square downtown neighborhood.

In addition to a brief Business Meeting, the event is a major networking opportunity, with 300-plus attendees, from 5 – 8 p.m. The cost for the Annual Meeting is $25 for members and $40 for nonmembers.
